The 2024 CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators is currently accepting applications. This 20-week bootcamp and implementation program is tailored for early-stage Civic innovators with tech-enabled ideas aimed at addressing social issues.
The CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators primary goal is to cultivate a new generation of civic-tech leaders through an incubation program that will concentrate on key themes such as Civic Participation & Engagement, Transparency & Accountability, Institutional Efficiency, Justice Reforms, and Climate Resilience and Environmental Concerns.
Throughout the CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators, 12 innovative and creative solutions in the civic sector will be nurtured. Fellows will receive technical and legal assistance to prepare their solutions for launch. They will also receive a monthly stipend of N150,000 and access to a dedicated workspace for the duration of the fellowship.

With the rising population of young individuals in Nigeria, Civic Tech has emerged as a significant force for fostering positive societal transformation. It effectively utilizes digital innovation to connect government entities with citizens, thereby potentially broadening the civic landscape. Its profound influence encompasses essential areas such as public engagement, transparency, climate resilience, justice reform, accountability, and the effective provision of public services.
Our CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators is designed to cultivate a new generation of civic tech leaders through an incubation program that emphasizes critical themes, including Civic Participation and Engagement, Transparency and Accountability, Institutional Efficiency, Justice Reforms, and Climate Resilience and Environmental Concerns.
Twice a year, we nurture civic tech solutions that promote these thematic areas. Our CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators welcomes a variety of ideas, regardless of their scale—whether local or hyperlocal—and encourages the innovative use of technology, including radio, text, print, IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and social media as communication channels. We place significant emphasis on the potential impact of these ideas on communities and civic spaces, their sustainability in delivering value, and the unwavering commitment of the participants.
Over the past five years, 34 Civic Hive fellows have developed essential civic products that address social challenges at various societal levels. Notably, three of these initiatives—Gavel, Amplify, and the Flemer Project—have established robust partnerships with international organizations and consistently highlight the importance of the Civic Hive training in reaching their objectives. Additionally, we have witnessed remarkable advancements among fellows such as GenderMobile, PROMAD, PolicyShapers, JusticePadi, and Urban Alert.
Thematic Focus Areas: CivicHive CivicTech Fellowship Program for early-stage Civic innovators
- Artificial Intelligence for Positive Impact: We acknowledge the increasing interest and proliferation of new artificial intelligence technologies, along with the documented challenges they bring. Our aim is to assist individuals who are developing solutions that enhance the use of AI to address challenges and ensure effective governance of the AI landscape.
- Affordable Climate Technology Solutions and Advocacy Initiatives: The environmental and food security challenges posed by climate change continue to have a detrimental effect on Nigeria. We seek to support young innovators with technology-driven solutions to climate change issues, particularly in the areas of agricultural management, environmental concerns, and community resilience building. Through targeted grants, we aim to foster the development of cost-effective and innovative solutions.
- Technology for Social Impact (Health, Education, and Justice): Our experience has demonstrated that Nigeria possesses a wealth of talent capable of leveraging civic-tech tools to address societal issues effectively. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of organizations like BudgIT, Connected Development, Gavel, GenderMobile, and others.
- The fellowship program will incubate 12 novel and creative solutions in the civic sector. Fellows will receive technical and legal assistance to prepare their solutions for launch. They will also receive a monthly stipend of N150,000 and access to a dedicated workspace throughout the fellowship.
