Now, let’s talk about the exciting Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC! This program will span a decade and will welcome a total of 171 talented individuals as Mastercard Foundation Scholars. These scholars will include both undergraduate and master’s students, all of whom will have the opportunity to thrive and excel at UBC.

 

Now, let’s dive into the requirements for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Masters’ Degree Program at UBC. To be considered for this prestigious program, applicants must meet certain criteria.

  • MUST have completed Bachelor’s degree program
  • MUST not already have or posses a graduate or a PhD degree.
  • Be 35 years of age old or younger
  • Be a citizen or a refugee of a Sub-Saharan African Nation
  • Must have lived a major part of your life in a Sub-Saharan African Nation.
  • Present economically and disadvantaged financial circumstances
  • Must have achieved academic excellence in the tough circumstances.
  • Demonstrate and have leadership qualities
  • Show commitment to giving back to home community.
  • Must require Canadian study permit for study in Canada.
  • Must not be an assylum asylum in Canada.
  • Must commit to coming back home to Africa for the good of others.

Steps to Apply

Step One: Assess Your Eligibility

  • Decide your Program(s) of Interest
  • Consult the Minimum Academic requirements to determine academic eligibility.
  • Consult the website to confirm background experience.

Step Two: Additional Tests

  • If your Bachelor’s degree is not in the English Language, take English Proficiency Exam (TOEFL or IELTS).

Step Three: MCFSP Application Package

  • Complete compulsory Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application on or before December 1, 2023.
  • Submit electronically in a single PDF via email  [email protected].

Step Four: UBC Faculty Applications

  • Apply online after completing the MCFSP Application.
  • Review the respective faculty application and your eligibility for fee waivers.

Step Five: Reviewing Process

  • February 2024 – faculties nominate candidates for admission for the Scholarship.
  • University selection committee will review and select recipients.
  • Successful candidates contacted for video interview online in April 2024
