Apply for the Young Innovative Builders Program 2023

The Young Innovative Builders (YIB) program aims to acknowledge students in tertiary institutions across the country who have completed an industrial training program. This program recognizes the significance of industrial training programs in providing practical experience for applying knowledge.

Under the YIB program, young Nigerians who have developed innovative projects aligned with the Ministry’s objectives to grow the digital economy will be showcased and rewarded. The top 48 projects in each state and the FCT will receive laptops, while the next best 40 projects will receive tablets.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for the program, you must be a student enrolled in a Nigerian Tertiary Institution pursuing your first degree.
  • Additionally, you should have designed, developed, built, or deployed an innovative or tech-enabled project/product that leverages digital technology.
  • It is also important that you are still a student 3 months after the competition’s end date, which is December 22nd, 2023.
  • Furthermore, applicants must have completed an Industrial training program, and their projects should address real-world problems in society.

Application Process

  • The application process for the YIB program opens on November 22, 2023, and closes on December 6, 2023.
  • To apply, you need to submit your application through the designated application form on the program’s website.
  • All applications will be reviewed by a diverse selection committee consisting of representatives from academia, industry experts, the Ministry, and other stakeholders.
  • They will use a standard grading system to evaluate the applications.
  • The final list of successful applications will be published through official channels on or before December 22, 2023.

Selection

  • The selection committee, consisting of a diverse group of individuals, will evaluate the applications based on several criteria.
  • These criteria include the project’s level of novelty and originality in comparison to existing alternatives, its potential impact and relevance in addressing real-world issues in local communities or the country, its feasibility and scalability, and the quality of presentation and documentation.
  • The latter criterion will assess the quality of the project’s presentation in terms of describing the solution’s creation process and the aesthetics of the final product.
