Apply for the TechWomen Emerging Leaders Program for Women in STEM to study in the United States of America (Funded)

TechWomen 2024 Emerging Leaders Program for Women in STEM to study in the United States of America (Fully Funded) is a program that brings together emerging women leaders in STEM fields from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East with their counterparts in the United States. The program aims to provide these participants with mentorship, exchange opportunities, and access to resources and networks that will empower them to reach their full potential.

During the five-week program, participants will have the chance to engage in project-based mentorships at leading companies in either the San Francisco Bay Area or Chicago. They will also take part in professional development workshops, networking events, and travel to Washington, DC for targeted meetings and special events to conclude the program.

Eligibility

• To be eligible for the program, applicants must be women with a minimum of two years of full-time professional experience in STEM fields.
• It is important to note that internships and unpaid work experience do not count towards this requirement.
• Additionally, applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, be proficient in written and spoken English, and be citizens or permanent residents of specific countries at the time of application and throughout the program.
• They must also be eligible to obtain a U.S. J-1 exchange visitor visa and should not have applied for an immigrant visa to the United States (excluding the Diversity Immigrant Visa) in the past five years.
• Finally, applicants should not hold U.S. citizenship or be U.S. legal permanent residents.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate themselves as emerging leaders in their chosen professional track through their work experience, volunteer experience, community activities, and education. They should also be committed to returning to their home countries to share what they have learned and mentor women and girls. Additionally, applicants should have limited or no prior experience in the United States, a proven record of voluntary or public service in their communities, and a demonstrated track record of entrepreneurialism and commitment to innovation. It is important for them to show a willingness to participate in exchange programs, welcome opportunities for mentoring and new partnership development, and exhibit confidence and maturity. AWARD DETAILS
Covered Costs: The TechWomen program covers the following costs:

1. Roundtrip airfare from participant’s home country to the US.
2. Cost of Domestic airfare from San Francisco or Chicago to Washington, D.C.
3. Cost of Housing in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, California, Emeryville, California, or Chicago, Illinois during tenure of the mentorship period.
4. Cost of Meals and incidentals.
5. Cost of Hotel stay in Washington, D.C. USA
6. Cost of Public transportation to the participant’s host company in USA
7. Cost of Local transportation to group program events in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C. USA

Participants are responsible for the cost of any non-program activities such as independent sightseeing and cultural events, as well as any non-program-related domestic or international travel.

Housing
TechWomen participants will be housed in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, California, Emeryville, California, or Chicago, Illinois, depending on the location of the participant’s host company. Each participant will share an apartment with a fellow Emerging Leader. They will have their own private bedroom, while the living room and kitchen will be shared.

TechWomen 2024 Timeline:

• Application will close on January 10, 2024  
• Applicants will be notified no later than April 30, 2024.
• Final decisions will be made May 31, 2024.
• All applicants notified of the results of their application.
