Apply for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s study in the UK (Funded)

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission offers three Master’s programs, one of which is the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship program.

The UK government’s scholarship program, which is focused on international development goals, is offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). Objective:

To support the development requirements of Commonwealth nations by offering academics and professionals who would not otherwise have been able to study in the UK training.‏

Beneficiaries in mind:

A superior group of postgraduate students from Least Developed and Middle-Income Countries (including fragile and conflict-affected states) who have not previously studied for a year or longer in a high-income country, who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK, and who possess the knowledge and leadership abilities that they will need to further develop their home countries.

Award period: Usually lasts for 12 months

Application Qualifications

• In order to be eligible for these scholarships, candidates need to:
• possess citizenship in or have received refugee status from a Commonwealth nation that qualifies.
  possess a permanent residence in a Commonwealth nation that qualifies.
  be prepared to begin academic studies in the UK by September 2024, when the UK academic year officially begins.
  Possess a first degree with an honors grade of at least upper second class (2:1) by September 2024, or a lower second class degree with an appropriate postgraduate degree (often a Master’s degree).
  not have spent more than a year studying or working in a nation with a high standard of living
• lack the funds to study in the UK in the absence of this scholarship.
  possess the necessary supporting documentation in the format requested.

Worth of a Scholarship

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are co-funded by participating UK universities and the CSC. Every scholarship offers:

• approved travel expenses from the Scholar’s home country to the UK and back at the conclusion of the award; the CSC will not pay for the tickets of dependents or for travel expenses incurred prior to the award’s confirmation.
• A written agreement between the CSC and the UK university covers the entire approved tuition fee; scholars are not responsible for any portion of this cost.
• The institution will pay and fund the stipend, also known as living allowance, at the rate of £1,347 per month for students attending universities in the London metropolitan region or £1,652 per month (rates indicated at current levels).
• The university pays and finances the warm clothing allowance, if it applies.
• Thesis award, which is sponsored by the CSC and paid by the institution toward the expense of preparing a thesis or dissertation, if applicable.
• The university will use the study travel grant, which is financed by the CSC, to help cover the cost of any study-related travel inside the UK or abroad.
• contribution from the university, funded by the CSC, toward the cost of an obligatory tuberculosis (TB) test, if applicable, in order to apply for a visa (receipts must be shown).
• In the event that a Scholar is a single parent, widowed, or divorced and has children, they will get child allowance of £576.61 per month for the first kid and £143 per month for the second and third children under 16 who live at the same UK location.

• For the school year 2024–2025, applications for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are now being accepted.
  The application deadline is Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 16:00 GMT.
• Scholarship recipients must begin their studies in the UK in September or October of 2024.
  The CSC’s online application system is required to be used for submission of applications.
• Applications or supporting paperwork not submitted through the online application method cannot be accepted by the CSC.
• Because the online application system will be extremely active in the days preceding the application deadline, applicants are recommended to complete and submit their applications as early as feasible.
• Candidates must submit an application to enroll in a Master’s program at a UK university that is participating.
