Applications open for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024/2025 WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship. The PATA Fellowship, located in Abuja, Nigeria, is offering two 12-month positions starting in September 2024. Fellows will have the opportunity to work at the Department of Anaesthesia at National Hospital Abuja, where they will receive teaching from local faculty and visiting specialists.

PATA is a locally led program that is supported by the WFSA, the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists, and experienced partners in the field of surgery and anaesthesia, such as Smile Train and the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre.

Eligibility for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

• To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must be registered and practicing medical practitioners in their country of origin.
• They must have completed residency training in Anaesthesia and have a strong interest in paediatric anaesthesia and teaching.
• Additionally, applicants must be supported in their application by their own national anaesthesiology society, which must be a member society of the WFSA, as well as their head of department or hospital management.
• It is preferred that applicants are working in a teaching hospital and will be returning to their home country to a recognized post.

Application Process for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

• The application process involves applying through the Online Application Platform and selecting the ‘Start application’ option under the ‘All other WFSA Awards’ icon.
• From there, applicants should choose the Chapter ‘Fellowships’ and the Category ‘PATA Abuja Fellowship 2024’.

Required documents for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

• Required application documents include a curriculum vitae,
• a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s national anaesthesiology society,
• a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s head of department or hospital management,
• a copy of their medical degree, a copy of their specialist anaesthesiology qualification,
• a certificate of registration with the medical board or council of their country,
• a current practicing license from the medical board or council of their country,
• and a copy of the photograph page of their passport.

Other requirements for the WFSA Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

• Eligible candidates will be interviewed for the fellowship position.
• Applicants who have been selected for the scholarship will receive notification via email by 1 June 2024.
• It is important for successful applicants to promptly confirm their acceptance of the scholarship within 3 days of receiving the notification.
• Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being offered to the next eligible applicant.
