Applications open for the UN Human Rights Commission Fellowship Programme For People of African Descent
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 UN Human Rights Commission Fellowship Programme For People of African Descent. This program is specifically designed for individuals of African descent who are actively involved in advocating for the rights of people of African descent. The Fellowship takes place once a year at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.
The Fellowship programme offers participants the opportunity to:
1. Deepen their knowledge and understanding of international human rights law and the UN human rights system, with a particular focus on combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related issues affecting people of African descent.
2. Enhance their skills in developing project proposals, delivering presentations, and submitting information to human rights mechanisms.
3. Gain firsthand exposure to various human rights mechanisms.
4. Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
The main objective of the UN Human Rights Commission Fellowship Programme is to equip participants with the necessary skills to contribute to the promotion and protection of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of people of African descent in their respective countries. Participants will be empowered to develop legislation, policies, and programs, foster collaboration between civil society and governments, and raise awareness at the local level.
To be eligible for the programme, candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Be an individual of African descent residing in the Diaspora.
2. Have a minimum of four years of work experience related to the rights of people of African descent.
3. Submit a letter from an organization working on issues related to people of African descent or minority rights, certifying their status.
4. Be available to attend the entire duration of the programme. Selected fellows are expected to actively participate in all activities and strictly adhere to the program schedule.
Fellowship Date: UN Human Rights Commission Fellowship Programme For People of African Descent
The Fellowship is scheduled to take place from 11th to 29th November 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. Moreover, participants are required to allocate some time to pre-online courses and preparatory tasks during the two weeks leading up to the event.

Each fellow will receive a round-trip ticket (economy class) from their country of residence to Geneva, basic health insurance, and a stipend to cover modest accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the Programme.
