Applications open for the StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship. StoryMi Academy, in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria, is excited to announce the launch of the second edition of the StoryMi Documentary Film Fellowship. This esteemed program provides a rigorous 6-month training opportunity for dedicated Nigerian documentary filmmakers.
Eligibility: StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship
- To participate in this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- – Be a Nigerian citizen currently residing in Nigeria and be between the ages of 20 and 35.
- – Possess previous experience in filmmaking or a related field, with at least one completed film project (web or non-web) as a credited member of the production team.
- – Have a compelling script or treatment ready for development and production, along with a production bible or detailed plan for executing the proposed documentary project.
The Fellowship Journey: StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship
- Selection: Ten fellows will be chosen based on their application materials and mini-documentary submissions.
- International Exposure: As part of the program, fellows will have the opportunity to attend the prestigious international documentary film festival, Sunny Side of the Doc, in France. This experience will provide valuable insights from industry experts and take place at the end of June 2024.
- Immersive Learning: The fellowship will include intensive physical and virtual workshops. During these workshops, fellows will delve deep into the principles of documentary filmmaking, guided by esteemed instructors such as Louise Monlaü (Al Jazeera, New York Times, OpDocs) and Ike Nnaebue (No U-Turn, Arte production), among others. All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by StoryMi Academy.
- Remote Coaching & Project Development: Following the workshops, fellows will receive regular individual coaching sessions and ongoing support from their assigned mentors.
- Production Grants: Four exceptional fellows will be selected to receive substantial grants of 1.5 million naira each, empowering them to bring their documentary film projects to life.
- International Exposure: Fellows will have the chance to participate in a prestigious international documentary film festival as part of the program, learning from the top professionals in the industry.
- Film Screening: A screening night will be held in December 2024 (date may change) to honor the work of the fellows.
How to Apply: StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship
- To be considered for the StoryMi Documentary Film Fellowship 2024, please follow these steps:
- 1. Fill out the online application form, providing detailed information about your background, experience, motivation, creative approach, and project proposal.
- 2. Submit a short documentary film (maximum 5 minutes) demonstrating your storytelling skills and technical expertise.
- 3. Download the form from the website and send your application along with links to your films.
Submissions must be received by midnight on May 3rd, 2024. - The selected participants will be announced on May 17th, 2024.
