Applications open for the Rosalynn Carter Mental Health and Climate Change Fellowship.
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 Rosalynn Carter Mental Health and Climate Change Fellowship. This fellowship is open to individuals who meet the following eligibility requirements:
Eligibility Requirements for the Rosalynn Carter Mental Health and Climate Change Fellowship.
1. Applicants must be from and located in a country outside of the United States, specifically identified as low-socioeconomic level.
2. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in journalism, including writing, reporting, editing, producing, filmmaking, and other related fields. The projects assigned to fellows will be tailored to their experience and interests, and should be relevant to the evolving landscape of mental health and substance use in their country or coverage area.
3. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the impacts of climate change on mental health and have a desire to report on related topics. Previous experience in mental health reporting is not mandatory.
4. To apply, candidates must submit a completed application along with letters of support and recommendation. The deadline for submitting letters is flexible and extends beyond June 28. Further details can be found in the application.
5. Successful applicants will be required to attend mandatory Fellowship Training Meetings in September, which will be fully funded by the program. These meetings will take place at The Carter Center in Atlanta, with the next meeting scheduled for September 16-17, 2024.
To apply for the fellowship, candidates must follow the application procedure outlined below:
1. Provide a proposed project title, along with a brief description of the topic and title of your project in one to two sentences.
2. Summarize your proposed project in a short paragraph. Explain the issue you wish to report on, why you have chosen this particular topic, and what you hope to achieve through your reporting. Please note that there is a 1,000-character limit for this section.
3. List any previous awards or fellowships you have received that are related to journalism. Please keep your response within the 1,000-character limit.
4. Include a detailed resume that highlights your work experience with media organizations, professional memberships, and any other notable achievements.
5. Write an informal essay with a maximum word count of 1,000 words. In this essay, discuss your reasons for applying for the fellowship, clearly outline your proposed project and provide a plan for its completion. Include your expected project timeline and address any potential obstacles you may encounter. Additionally, emphasize the significance and timeliness of your chosen topic and describe the potential impact your project could have.
6. Portfolio Submission
-Please provide three examples of your work, with at least one being in the proposed medium for your project. Ensure that all submissions are digital and not hard copies, as they cannot be returned if lost in the mail.
-Work samples do not need to be related to mental health.
7. Endorsement Letters
Applicants are required to include two letters of recommendation.
-Include two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your work.
-The recommenders should be able to attest to the quality of your work and dedication to your project and/or mental health reporting.
-Recommendations will be requested online after the completion of the application.
8. Media Outlet Endorsement Letter
Applicants must include a letter of support from a media outlet.
-If you are employed full-time, a letter from your publisher, editor, manager, or newsroom leader supporting your application and project is necessary.
-For freelancers or self-employed individuals, the letter of support should come from someone familiar with your work. Applicants with letters from editors or publishers showing a clear interest and intent to publish the fellowship project will be given preference.
-The letter of support should be submitted online upon completion of the application process.
