Applications open for the MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme for Public Tertiary Institutions

Applications for the 2024 MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme are now available. Established in 2010, the MTN Scholarships Program by MTN Foundation recognizes and rewards high-performing students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions in three categories:

  1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS) has been open to eligible 300 level students studying Science & Technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions since 2010. 300 students are awarded scholarships until graduation upon meeting grade requirements. Starting in 2024, the annual award amount has increased from N200,000 to N300,000.
  2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS) has been targeted at eligible 200 and 300 level blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions since 2012. Starting in 2024, the number of blind students to receive scholarships has increased from 60 to 100. The annual award amount has also increased from N200,000 to N300,000 and will be awarded until graduation if grade requirements are met.

Top 10 UTME Scholarship, since 2020, automatically qualifies the top 10 scoring candidates of UTME as announced by JAMB for the scholarship. The candidates are awarded scholarships from their 100 level through to graduation upon meeting grade requirements. Starting in 2024, the annual award amount has increased from N200,000 to N300,000.

The Top 10 UTME Scholarship is awarded irrespective of the successful candidates’ preferred course of study or Tertiary Institution – Public or Private in Nigeria.

Eligibility Criteria: MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme for Public Tertiary Institutions

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) are available to Nigerian students enrolled in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). Starting in 2024, the number of scholarships awarded to blind students has increased from 60 to 100.

Furthermore, the annual award amount has been raised from N200,000 to N300,000 and will continue to be granted until graduation, provided that the recipients meet the grade requirements.

Course of Study: MTN Foundation Scholarship Scheme for Public Tertiary Institutions

  1. The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to students in their 300 level who are pursuing Science & Technology related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
  2. On the other hand, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is available to blind students in their 200 and 300 levels, studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

Level of Study

  1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS):
  2. The application is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations and are progressing to their 300 level. Additionally, students currently in their 300 level are also eligible to apply, considering the variation in academic calendars across different public tertiary institutions.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):

  1. The application is open to blind students in their 200 and 300 levels, studying at any Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
  2. However, for blind students pursuing a 5-year Law course, only those in their 300 level can apply for the MTN Scholarship.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

  1. The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is available for STEM students in various educational institutions. In order to be eligible, students in public universities and colleges of education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of either 3.0/4 or 3.5/5, which corresponds to a second class upper credit. Similarly, STEM students in public polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
  2. For direct entry level STEM students, a minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program is required, along with admission into the 300 level/3rd year in a public university.
  3. Additionally, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is available for blind students in universities or colleges of education. To be eligible, these students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5. For blind students in public polytechnics, a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program is required, along with admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
