Applications for the 2024 Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) Isu Elihle Awards are now being accepted. Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) is preparing to launch the 8th edition of the Isu Elihle Awards, which recognize exceptional journalism that highlights the stories and experiences of Africa’s children.

The Isu Elihle Awards Competition is a continental initiative that advocates for ethical and high-quality reporting on children’s issues. Isu Elihle, which means “great idea” in isiZulu, challenges journalists to present innovative story concepts that prioritize children’s voices and hold those in power accountable.

This competition seeks to empower journalists by providing mentorship, sharing resources, and offering financial assistance to help them develop and publish stories focused on children on any mainstream news platform.

It celebrates innovative journalism about children and encourages journalists to reconsider how they involve and understand children in matters that affect them. The transformation from initial concept to the final published story showcases significant growth in storytelling.

This pioneering initiative promotes top-notch, child-centered journalism that amplifies children’s viewpoints and brings about positive changes in media coverage of their concerns.

Requirements: Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) Isu Elihle Awards.

The competition is open to professional journalists, whether employed directly or working as freelancers, within the African continent, and there is no entry fee required.
Story concepts can be tailored for any mainstream news outlet, including TV, Radio, or Online platforms.
The final stories will be evaluated after publication or broadcast, and cash prizes will be awarded as follows: ZAR 25,000 (Overall Winner); ZAR 15,000 (2nd place); ZAR 10,000 (Third Place).
