Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 IFC MAS GrowAfrica Intern Program. GrowAfrica is seeking six (6) interns to participate in Upstream and Advisory projects focused on mitigating operational risks in IFC investment projects. These projects involve strengthening supply chains, addressing food security, enhancing collaboration with the World Bank, empowering farmers, improving product traceability, ensuring food safety, and more. Interns will play a crucial role in advancing the agriculture industry and gaining valuable field experience. They will be supervised by the Project Leader and directly overseen by the Project Coordinator.

GrowAfrica Project 1: Enhancing the capacity of an Agri-commodity trader to boost sourcing from farmers
GrowAfrica Project 2: Advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing business management for coffee farmers in Uganda
GrowAfrica Project 3: Supporting agriculture production, particularly in the poultry and coffee sectors in Angola
GrowAfrica Project 4: Enhancing productivity through training and establishing a reliable supply chain to revitalize the cotton sector in Mozambique
GrowAfrica Project 5: Creating a food security heatmap to guide investment opportunities for IFC in Africa, reducing import dependency continent-wide
GrowAfrica Project 6: Identifying, engaging, and collaborating with World Bank operations that can benefit from IFC’s private sector expertise

The IFC MAS GrowAfrica Intern Program aims to assist qualified graduate students in bridging their academic knowledge with practical experience, facilitating a seamless transition into their careers.

GrowAfrica will provide interns with practical opportunities to contribute to the development of agribusiness in Africa, allowing them to enhance their skills in project delivery and benefit from a dynamic learning environment. This includes:

Qualification Requirements: IFC MAS GrowAfrica Intern Program

– Preferably hold a master’s or PhD degree, with a minimum of two years of work experience.
– Studying agriculture with a focus on crop science, agricultural economics, agronomy, soil management, social sciences, economics, or related fields. Experience in specialized areas related to the projects in Section B, Project Backgrounds, is advantageous.
– Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, multitask, and perform well under pressure to meet deadlines.
– Possessing effective communication skills in multicultural and multi-lingual settings, including proficiency in English, Hausa, Portuguese, and French.
– Demonstrating the ability to collaborate efficiently within a diverse team.
– Having a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities in African agribusiness.
– Displaying clear and logical thinking with strong problem-solving skills.
– Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media platforms.
– Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
– Results-driven and a valuable team player.
– Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills.
– The internship package includes a maximum of 40 working hours per week, not exceeding 160 hours per month, with a negotiable stipend based on experience and qualifications.
– The internship is expected to start between 1 June and 31 July 2024, lasting a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months.
– The intern will report to the Project Leader (PL) and be directly supervised by the Project Coordinator for each project.
