Applications open for the ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition
The 2024 ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition is now accepting applications. This initiative aims to assist journalists in creating impactful stories that highlight the tragic consequences of road traffic accidents in some of the most affected nations.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that approximately 1.2 million individuals lose their lives in road traffic incidents annually, equating to more than two fatalities every minute. This alarming statistic underscores road traffic accidents as the primary global cause of death among children and young adults aged 5 to 29. The Road Safety Reporting Competition and Awards are organized by the ICFJ, with support from the FIA Foundation Richard Stanley Memorial Grant and funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, to enhance awareness and foster discussions on critical yet often overlooked road safety matters.
Eligibility Criteria: ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting Competition
– Applicants must have published work in media outlets located in Brazil, Botswana, India, Mexico, Nepal, or Nigeria.
– At least one published story related to road safety is required. The competition welcomes multimedia submissions in addition to print media.
– A resume or curriculum vitae must be submitted.
– To qualify, the road safety story must be published between January 1, 2024, and October 29, 2024.
