Applications open for the African Fact-Checking Awards ($3,000 prize)
The African Fact-Checking Awards, which recognize fact-checking journalism by the media in Africa, are now in their eleventh year. Submissions for the 2024 awards are currently being accepted from journalists, journalism students, and professional fact-checkers throughout the continent.
Eligibility: African Fact-Checking Awards
- To be eligible, entries must have been initially published or broadcast between July 1, 2023, and July 14, 2024.
- The fact-check should demonstrate that a claim regarding an important topic related to Africa is either misleading or incorrect.
Awards: African Fact-Checking Awards
The awards consist of three categories, each awarding a winner and a runner-up:
– Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist
– Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker
– Fact-Check of the Year by a Student Journalist
Prizes: African Fact-Checking Awards
- The winners of the working journalist and professional fact-checker categories will each receive a prize of US$3,000,
- while the runners-up will be awarded $1,500.
- The winner of the student journalist category will receive $2,000,
- with the runner-up receiving $1,000.
