Applications open for the African Development Bank Internship Program.
Applications are currently being accepted for the African Development Bank Internship Program. The Bank’s primary goal is to provide financial and technical support for transformative projects that will effectively reduce poverty and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
To ensure the successful implementation of the Ten-Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and achieve greater developmental impact, the Bank has identified five key areas for scaling up: energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration, and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa. The Internship Program is an integral part of the Bank’s Talent Management Framework, which enables the Bank to effectively deliver on its Ten-Year Strategy and the High 5s.
Participants in the Program are selected through a competitive process, based on the Bank’s business needs.
Objectives
The main objectives of the program are as follows:
1. Provide students with the opportunity to gain professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
2. Create a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes within the Bank.
Fields of Study Required for the Internship:
- Interns are selected from fields of study that align with the Bank’s job families, particularly
- Economics,
- Agriculture,
- Private Sector Development,
- Human Capital Development (Education and Health),
- Environment,
- Finance,
- Infrastructure Development,
- Human Resources Management,
- Information Technology,
- Communications,
- Law,
- Internal Audit,
- Budget,
- Governance,
- or any other field of study that the Bank considers relevant to its operations. Special consideration will be given to students working on projects that directly contribute to the Bank’s mission.
Timeline for Session 2 of the 2024 Internship Program:
Session 2 of the 2024 Internship Program is scheduled to commence in July 2024.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Must have reached the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and must not exceed thirty (30) years old at the start of the internship program.
2. Currently enrolled in a master’s level degree program at a recognized public or private higher education institution.
3. Candidates can apply for an internship within one (1) year of obtaining the degree.
4. Nationals of African Development Bank member countries.
5. Submit a letter from their school confirming enrollment or a copy of the degree mentioned above. Applicants must be proficient in at least one of the Bank’s two official languages (English or French).
6. Proficient in using the Bank’s standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); familiarity with SAP is preferred.
Terms and Conditions:
- Internships will be awarded to each candidate for a period of no less than three (3) months and no more than six (6) months. Each candidate is only authorized to undertake the internship once.
- Selected interns will carry out their internship remotely or on-site based on the requirements of their respective hiring units. Remote interns should have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection, and a suitable living environment conducive to uninterrupted remote work.
- On-site interns are responsible for their air travel to and from the Bank’s location, as well as their living expenses.
- The Bank will make reasonable efforts to assist interns in obtaining entry and residence visas.
- Eligible interns will receive medical insurance coverage paid for by the Bank during their internship period.
- Eligible interns will receive a monthly stipend.
Application Procedure
- To be considered for the internship program, applicants must submit a complete online application along with a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- The Bank organizes two internship sessions annually. The selection process for session 1 of the 2024 Internship Program has concluded, and the chosen interns have started their program. This announcement pertains to session 2, scheduled to begin in July 2024.
- The announcement for session 1 of the 2025 Internship Program will be made in October 2024, with selected interns commencing their program in January 2025.
