Applications open for the 2024 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge. This global competition, launched by the UN Secretary General, President of the World Bank, and the Council of Women World Leaders at the UN General Assembly in 2018, is specifically designed for women social entrepreneurs who are driving progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inspiring their communities to create a better world by 2030.

The challenge aims to recognize the innovative work of these women entrepreneurs and provide them with capacity-building training sessions and opportunities to connect with a global network of like-minded individuals. By showcasing the valuable contributions of women social entrepreneurs and business leaders, this program seeks to address the world’s most pressing challenges and advance the SDGs.

In 2024, the selected WE Empower Challenge Awardees will have the chance to participate in events surrounding the 79th UN General Assembly and engage with renowned business experts from around the globe.

The WE Empower Challenge is co-convened by ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory and Vital Voices Global Partnership.

Eligibility Requirements: WE Empower UN SDG Challenge.

1. You must identify as a woman entrepreneur.
2. You must hold decision-making authority within your organization.
3. Your business or organization must have been operational for a minimum of three years as of August 1, 2024.
4. You must employ at least three full-time employees or their equivalents.
5. Your business or organization must generate a minimum annual revenue of $75,000 USD. For nonprofit organizations, revenue may include donations, grants, and funds raised through fundraising activities.
6. You must have professional proficiency in English.
7. You must be at least 21 years old by August 1, 2024.
8. You must be available to travel to New York, NY, and participate in all events from September 22 to September 29, 2024. Additionally, you should be able to participate in a virtual program from August through December 2024 if required.

Criteria WE Empower UN SDG Challenge.

The chosen candidates will be informed by July 2024 and will be given the chance to visit New York City, New York (NY) for the UN Global Goals/Climate Week from September 22 to 27, 2024. They will take part in customized training sessions provided by key partners, attend high-profile events with UN Officials, and engage in various activities.
