Applications open for Mozilla Fellows for Tech + Society Fellowship

Applications are now open for the 2024 Mozilla Fellows for Tech + Society Fellowship, a unique opportunity at the crossroads of technology and civil society. This fellowship was created to address the power imbalance faced by public interest technologists and civil society organizations in the Global Majority.

Critical civil society organizations play a crucial role in fighting inequality, safeguarding the public, and collaborating with the public sector to serve the community. In today’s digital age, it is essential for civil society to also tackle societal issues that intersect with the digital world. By enhancing the collective impact of technology and society, we can strengthen the relevance and sustainability of public interest movements and technologists, ultimately advancing a more human-centered internet.

To be eligible for the Tech + Society Fellowship, candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a technology-related role. They should also reside in or have work authorization in the country or region of the host organization, as specific parameters may apply. Understanding the cultural nuances and context of the host country is important, as some organizations may have language-specific requirements.

Strategic thinking and a collaborative mindset are key attributes we seek in fellows, along with a track record of identifying problems and solutions at the intersection of technology and social justice. Fellows should be able to commit to the fellowship work on a full-time basis, with an engagement length ranging from 1.5 to 2 years.

Proficiency in English is necessary for effective communication and collaboration throughout the fellowship. If you meet these criteria and are passionate about leveraging technology for the betterment of society, we encourage you to apply for the Tech + Society Fellowship. Join us in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future through the power of technology.

Requirements

The aim of this fellowship is to foster collaboration between technological strategists and civil society leaders. By bringing together technologists as fellows and civil society organizations as host organizations, the program seeks to amplify the impact of these organizations and empower them to address societal issues that intersect with technology.

Benefits

This fellowship offers a fully remote, full-time opportunity that will commence in August 2024. Fellows will be part of a cohort consisting of public interest technologists and human rights organizations from Eastern Africa, MENA, Brazil, India, and Mexico.

This fellowship provides a platform for technologists and civil society organizations, each with their own unique expertise, to collaborate with one another and the cohort towards a common goal.

The fellowship award is designed to support the holistic well-being of the fellows, including a stipend, additional funding, and comprehensive support provided by Mozilla.
