Applications open for LéO Africa Institute Huduma Fellowship in civic and public service
Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 LéO Africa Institute Huduma Fellowship. The Huduma Fellowship, a collaboration between the LéO Africa Institute and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, aims to provide training in thought leadership for emerging champions in the civic and public sectors in Uganda. Each year, the program accepts 15 exceptional individuals who are already working or aspiring to work in civic and public service.
The Huduma Fellowship focuses on leadership, change, and innovation, aligning with the strategic objectives and vision of the LéO Africa Institute for leadership in Africa. The fellowship incorporates various learning methods, including face-to-face presentations and online studies. Fellows participate in faculty presentations, case studies, personal assessments, individual and group exercises, as well as special projects.
Through customized case studies and professional faculty coaching, fellows develop a personal action plan to enhance their leadership and influencing skills. These skills are utilized during the fellowship and in the fellows’ post-fellowship career development.
Criteria
The selection criteria for the Fellowship include individuals between the ages of 25-35 who have a demonstrated interest in volunteerism and civic and public service.
The fellows are early-stage professionals working in the civic and public sectors in Uganda, who possess intellectual curiosity and a keen interest in public affairs.
The fellowship is also open to individuals with a demonstrable interest in public affairs.
Assessment
- The assessment of potential fellows occurs in two stages.
- Firstly, each individual application is evaluated based on a set of indicators.
- Applicants are expected to provide honest information to give the Selection Committee a fair understanding of their background and aspirations.
- Secondly, shortlisted candidates undergo a conversation with a member of the Institute faculty to further assess their suitability for the fellowship.
- The candidates are required to provide a comprehensive account of their career aspirations and their involvement in the public sector.
- The assessment process aims to gather additional details that may not have been included in their initial application.
- During this stage, the candidates engage in a discussion with a faculty member to outline their expectations from the Fellowship.
- These expectations will be evaluated at the conclusion of the programme
