Applications open for AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program for young women
The 2024 AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program is now accepting applications from young women worldwide. This 12-week digital program, conducted from home, focuses on developing global competence skills, social impact, and sustainability. The program, co-developed by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania, includes workshops and content that address real-world challenges, with a specific emphasis on climate change and the energy transition.
Upon completion of the program, scholars will receive the Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact, awarded by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy.
To be eligible for the program, participants must be between the ages of 15 and 17.5 at the start date. They should have the ability to fully participate in English, both online and in a classroom setting. An interest in STEM, sustainability, and global competencies is also required, along with a curiosity and willingness to engage with diverse peers and explore different cultures.
Participants will need access to a computer, smartphone, or other digital device to access the virtual program content. They should also have an integrated webcam and microphone for online dialogue sessions, as well as a stable internet or wifi connection.
Talented young women from all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented populations and with high financial need, are strongly encouraged to apply for this program.
The Global STEM Accelerators program, which will be conducted entirely online, will take place in two cohorts in 2024:
Cohort 1: May 4 – August 4, 2024
Cohort 2: August 24 – November 24, 2024
Here is the timeline for the program:
– February 1: Application opens
– March 17: Application deadline
– April 5: Admissions decisions for Cohort 1 announced via email
– April 6 – May 12: Cohort 1 virtual exchange
– May 10: Admissions decisions for Cohort 2 announced via email
– June 22 – July 28: Cohort 2 virtual exchange
Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The winners of scholarships for the 2024 Global STEM Accelerators program will be announced on April 5, 2024, for Cohort 1 scholars, and on May 10, 2024, for Cohort 2 scholars.
