The Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) initiative is dedicated to cultivating data science expertise aimed at addressing climate and health challenges throughout Africa. The CAN Data Science Fellowship equips emerging data science professionals with essential skills to tackle issues at the nexus of climate and health, thereby positively influencing lives across the continent.
Throughout the CAN Data Science Fellowship program, participants engage in collaborative projects with host institutions and mentors, leveraging their data skills to foster innovative solutions and establish a network of data professionals committed to sustainable development. The fellowship encompasses hands-on project work, media training, and opportunities for fellows to showcase their work at local, regional, and international forums.
Requirements – CAN Data Science Fellowship
Applicants for the CAN Data Science Fellowship must possess a completed first university degree, demonstrate the ability to conduct independent academic research and study, and have a minimum of three years of professional experience in data management, analysis, and visualization. Strong communication skills, a solid foundation in technology and data science, and familiarity with the African context regarding climate and health are also essential.
This is a full-time position commencing in October 2024 and concluding in March 2025. CAN Data Science Fellowship Candidates are required to have successfully completed a first university degree and exhibit the capability to engage in independent advanced academic research and study. Additionally, candidates must have three years of experience in data management, analysis, and visualization, along with proficient communication skills and strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytical abilities.
Expertise in technology, systems development, big data, open data, and data science is crucial. Furthermore, candidates should possess a working knowledge of the climate and health contexts of African countries. This is a full-time role, and selected fellows will be expected to actively participate in various activities and adhere strictly to the program’s requirements.
Deliverables and Outputs: CAN Data Science Fellowship
– Training focused on the execution of use cases.
– Creation of a comprehensive project plan to facilitate the execution and support of the identified use cases.
– Provision of monthly progress reports regarding the program’s status.
– Assistance for the designated use cases within the relevant government department or SIO.
– Sharing of skills and knowledge among team members within the department.
– Participation in peer exchange initiatives among fellows, departments, and organizations.
Benefits: CAN Data Science Fellowship
CAN Data Science Fellowship will be awarded a monthly stipend and are required to be physically present at the government department or SIO office throughout the duration of their assignment.
Remuneration: CAN Data Science Fellowship
CAN Data Science Fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of $1500 for the entire fellowship period.
