APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO ONE-MONTH INTENSIVE AGRICULTURAL TRAINING under the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (L.A.P.)
Agriculture plays a crucial role in many economies, with some developing countries seeing it contribute 25% or more to their GDP. This sector presents a significant opportunity for youth employment. With the average age of food producers in the country being 60+, it is essential for the government to implement inclusive strategies that involve the youth in agricultural production. Lagos has taken steps in this direction by launching programs through the Ministry of Agriculture to address challenges such as lack of financing, land, markets, and training that hinder youth engagement in agriculture.
Under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (L.A.P.) was established in 2020 as a social intervention initiative. The primary goal of this program is to introduce young people to agriculture by providing training in modern agricultural techniques and practices, ultimately leading to job creation and wealth generation. Over the next 5 years, the program aims to train 15,000 youth in poultry, aquaculture, vegetable, and piggery value chains.
