African Peacebuilding Network: Individual Research Fellowships 2024 call for entries is open
The African Peacebuilding Network (APN) of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is seeking research fellowship applications from African scholars, researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners who are working on conflict and peacebuilding issues. These individuals can be affiliated with universities, research institutions, regional or governmental agencies, or non-governmental organizations based in Africa.
The Individual Research Fellowship (IRF) program is a key part of the APN, aiming to enhance the quality and visibility of independent African peacebuilding research both regionally and globally. It also aims to make peacebuilding knowledge accessible to policymakers, practitioners, and research centers of excellence in Africa and around the world. Fellowship recipients are expected to produce research-based knowledge that is relevant and impactful for peacebuilding scholarship, policy, and practice on the continent. The APN, on the other hand, works towards incorporating the evidence-based knowledge produced by fellowship recipients into regional and global discussions, practices, and policies related to peacebuilding.
Eligibility
- Eligibility criteria for applicants include being African citizens currently residing in an African country.
- The competition is open to African academics, policy analysts, and practitioners. Academic applicants must hold a faculty or research position at an African university or research organization and have obtained a PhD no earlier than January 2014.
- Priority will be given to academic applicants who have not yet been awarded their PhDs by February 11, 2024. Policy analysts or practitioners must be based in Africa at a regional or sub-regional institution, government agency, or non-governmental, media, or civil society organization.
- They should also have a master’s degree obtained before January 2019 and at least five years of proven research and work experience in peacebuilding-related activities on the continent.
